Lovemore Tafirenyika Makunike holds BSc, MSc and MBA degrees and currently oversees all consulting assignments carried out under the Nepachem stable.

Starting his career as an analytical chemist Lovemore has matured into a seasoned business development and enterprise development specialist with 22 years involvement in programs and projects geared towards the economic development of developing countries through promotion of industrial development, investment, trade and export promotion, capacity building as well as business linkages.

He has been involved in creating sustainable conditions for enterprise creation and growth to respond to local and export markets; Reducing the cost of doing business and encouraging investment; Assisting in positioning the private sector to respond to opportunities in specific categories of the market; and Increasing the number of formal enterprises, employment and skilled workers.

Other competencies accrued over the years include business and technology incubation, commercialization of novel projects, SMMEs support, innovation consultancy, designing analysis plans, monitoring and evaluation, marketing and socio-economic surveys, data quality control, data analysis and report writing. He has a thorough understanding of the key cross-cutting issues of Sub-Saharan Africa in general.

Personal Skills:
More than 17 years of experience in enterprise development, development planning and socio-economic research. In the past 6 years I co-authored and presented more than 5 papers on development issues at international conferences in Iceland, Scotland, South Africa and Hungary. Was part of the technical team that designed the Regional Masters in Economics and Gender Program Funded by UNDP and hosted by Makerere University of Uganda as well as the marketing strategy. I was also involved in extensive and intensive analysis of Local Economic Development challenges faced by the region at large. I have also acquired skills in research analysis and technical report production and presentation skills through participation at professional forums. Currently I am working on two book chapters on: Growing the smallholder farm sector: Case studies of successful policies, programmes and projects in South Africa and Growing the rural non farm sector: Case studies of successful policies, programmes and projects in South Africa.
